getting things together last minute

SO im at the horn center right now just getting a few things together before crit today... i finished my prints last night and just finished scanning my notes... i am just burning my files onto a disk and just printed my original project description. i hope i have everything.... i dont have a envelope or case for my disk SO i made one out of the nuggets nutritional info handout :-D

PRINTING CONCERNS!

so im worried on how my images are going to look after they are printed. Ian had a lot of issues with his printing SO i am worried that something might happen to mine too! AAHH! LETS HOPE FOR THE BEST! but expect the worse!

so i have two photos right now and here is another one... photoshop keeps challenging me and i know that my color correcting is off! i need another eye to help me on this! this past week has been crazy! i have been going to sleep at 3-4 am almost every night/morning and still have to get up and go to school or work. i am tired. i need sleep! but being pressured with midterms and projects helps me and makes me work a little harder! i want to learn photoshop and i NEED to master the damn thing! i hate reading but i have to do it! luckily one of my photoshop books has lots of examples and diagrams which makes it easier for me to try and learn photoshop.

this whole project has been a challenge! it has made me realize insecurities that people have and insecurities that i have as well.

the way my mind goes off on tangents surprises me as well. ideas come from everywhere and lots of the time they dont work out the way i want them to. this whole mouth project started off because i had a toothache. it has morphed into images that i really did not expect to have. the relationships with objects and the mouth and people are endless.

there is too much to say about the mouth... i need to walk away from this now and try to get some sleep!

people and their mouths

its very hard to find people to let me photograph them using their mouths! this is what i have so far! this has been a very difficult project for me because people are insecure with their mouths and dont want to be photographed eating drinking or anything! BLAAHHHH!!!!!!

well i went back to the food and the mouth as you can see on these images. i thought of how we eat food and how when we are children we have to be fed in order to survive because we cannot feed ourselves. i wanted to have more images done by today but unfortunately these took longer to work on because of the lack of technical skills i have with photoshop. the two photoshop books i have really helped me. a problem i still have is color balancing and understanding curves. i need to work on that more!

if i can have some feedback that would be great! thanks.

learning photoshop and other stuff

today we were learning how to work with RAW images. Photoshop is difficult for me because there are SOOO many ways to do ONE thing! i really liked the VARIATIONS tool that was used today. that was pretty awesome! if i would have known that was available it would have made the color ring easier when i was printing it for my color class!
i have a couple of photoshop books that i reference when i am stuck! so today was very helpful even though we were racing through everything!
for the work im doing i definitely need to learn cloning! and how to patch things up so the clone wont be so obvious.
once i finish with some prints i will post them up. i need to reshoot because i want more prints to work with.
the project that i am working on now is completely different than from the one i started with!
once i am done with my prints and post them i will explain my thought processes and how i arrived to the project i am working on now.

things about today

today it was raining! it was a beautiful day!
i work up late and missed my first class becasue there was an accident on the freeway!
it was raining.
i went to digital and some students presented their work...it was pretty good. makes me a little intimidated because i am still lost. i tried my original idea and failed. i also tried to reshoot and still failed....
i cant wait to get home because i bought a little spy cam and cant wait to play with it!
i bought a book for digital! its called Teach Yourself Visually Photoshop CS4
so far its pretty good... just skimmed through it... havent really read the whole thing! but if youre like me and hate reading it has TONS of examples! :-)

Long Beach Exposed

so i just got back from the Long Beach Exposed opening reception. I thought it was a great show! The experimental photography professor at csulb had work up, James Adams. There was a lot of interesting work up. i will post up photos later... right now i will enjoy some george carlin comedy and have some beer. just wanted to share the fact that i went...lol. go if you get a chance

DOUCHE BAG

so right now im at the nugget using this little farming game on facebook... some guy is making fun of the fact that i use it by yelling out "someone let me use their laptop cause i need to farm"
yeah..total douche bag... and hes one of the frat guys... so far my experience with frat guys equals douche bags!

Patti Oleon

Patti Oleon was the visiting artis this week. her work is amazingly detailed. all of her paintings look like photographs. she talked about her technique where she sands down the paintings to get rid of her brush strokes so that her paintings are seamless. all the work she presented was amazing. if i had just looked at her work and not read that the material she uses is oil on masonite i would have assumed that her work was all photographs.

Mouths

Project Description:

I want to be able to photograph mouths, inside peoples mouths. I even want to be able to take photographs of the perspective of the mouth. I want to be able to build on this project so i want to start off with the mouth itself. I want to photograph the mouth itself, open, vulnerable. Then i want to push it a little further and photograph from inside the mouth looking out into the world. I dont know how i will pursue this further but i definately want to make this project something that i can build on and always push.

Conceptual Concerns:

i got the idea for this project last week. I had a toothache and i didnt know whether i had a cavity or it was just sensitivity. I took pictures of the inside of my mouth with my point and shoot and zoomed into sections of my mouth. I found it very interesting. I have never really looking in my mouth. then i started thinking about other people and how i never look in anyones mouth. Our mouths are very important things...we eat and communicate with the world through it.

Technical Skills Covered

well in order for the inside perspective of the mouth i plan on buying a little spy can to put in my mouth and photograph the outside world. i will have to learn how to use that equipment and im sure that there will be technical issues with that. As far as presentation and process is concerened, that will not be dealt with until i start photographing and see what feels right with the photographs i will end up with. i want to try things i have never tried before which is why i want to experiment with the little spy cameras.

Formal Guidelines:

everything is going to be digital. i want to definitely go large as far as pringint and presentation, but that will not be decided will i get my images. I will bring my camera to school and work to start photographing the inside of mouths. i still have to look into purchasing the spy cam so once i obtain that i will begin on the photographs of the mouth perspective.

Artistic References

i need to look for artists who have done this. i also want to look into medical photography and see what they have.

Readings

Grade

the grade is not as important to me as my feeling in the final project. i want to be satisfied with what i present and i want to be able to call it a finished piece. i understand that there has to be some sort of guideline to grading but i am more concerned with my success of depicting my message on the photographs.

Goals List

my goals are on a gray scale right now. one of the things i am most concerned with is whether i will be able to successfully achieve the mouths perspective. i will be working with a tiny camera and i am not sure how the lighting in the mouth is or whether the image or little cam will be distorted or malfunction because of the moisture in the mouth.
